In 2003, The International Ice Hockey Centre of Excellence (IIHCE) was established in Vierumäki with the help of The Sports Institute of Finland and The Finnish Ice Hockey Association (FIHA).

IIHCE was successfully inaugurated for the purpose of distributing educational information needed for the consistently growing sport. The Centre cooperates with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) hosting international camps, conferences and creating new educational materials.
